What’s Going on…?

March 12, 2009

Daylight savings as begun and I am beginning to ’spring forward’ towards summer and my upcoming new job that starts in the Fall. So here’s some things that have been going on…

In February I began my student teaching at a middle school in Lincoln, NE. The school is very diverse in it’s character and student abilities. I love working with other teachers and learning different skills from each one. In the mornings I teach 8th grade science and in the afternoons I teach 7th grade social sciences with a different teacher. My cooperating teachers are great, both are going to help me immensely. I’m acquiring a lot of skills that I will use in August which moves me to the next thing…

I have a classroom in August. In mid February I had a very good experience at a middle school just outside Omaha and they extended me a job offer. I accepted and am excited and relieved I have a job in this troubled time of finding employment. 1 Interview, 1 Job. Can’t get any better than that.

I’ve got some other things going on, but I want to dedicate those to separate posts. Cheers!

Rest In Peace Leroi

August 20, 2008

Awoke this morning and stumbled over to DIGG to find that one of my favorite muscians had passed away yesterday evening. Leroi Moore, original saxophonist and cofounder of the Dave Matthews Band from Charlottesville, Virginia, was 46.

The Dave Matthews Band (Dave Matthews, Stefan Lessard, Boyd Tinsley, Leroi Moore and Carter Beauford) inspired me to pick up the guitar and learn a great majority of their music. Attending a half-dozen DMB shows, watching and listening to Leroi play was absolutely the tops of DMB concerts. He is missed by millions, myself included.

John’s Semester List

August 19, 2008

The summer is about over, August 25th is the “Official First Day of Classes” at UNL, so that leaves me with a little under a week to prepare for my last semester of walking to college classes. Next Monday will mark the beginning of my fifth year at UNL, amazing how time flies. I still can’t believe I used to live in the dorms for 2 years, seemed so long ago.

Every semester I sort of set out to create a list of things I would like to see-through for the next 4 months, I think previous lists were something like, go to class everyday, no more than 2 naps during the week, no tequila (that didn’t work). I hope everyone does something like this and I sure it’s done subconsciously too, but here goes mine, plastered on my very first post on my first blog. Cheers

Fall 2008. My List

  1. Blog at least twice a week

I put this at the top of the list because whenever I am thinking about being productive, yes thinking not actually being productive, I really really want to keep a blog. I’m not too sure on the blog content. I enjoy technology, education, Chicago Cub’s baseball bleedecubbieblue.com is the best,Apple products and daily life thoughts in general. I speculate this blog will entail most of those, but who knows. I just want to write.

         2. Stay Organized…because I am right now (planner, hang shirts up)

Let’s just get this right out for everyone to read, I’m not the most organized person. When I say “not the most”, I mean the least, ever. After moving into my new house, I have been doing quite the job staying organized. I actually use my hamper, hang shirts and fold jeans back in their appropriate place. I also have been using the calendar on my iphone and I love it. Lets hope the folding and neatness is hear to stay

         3. Better with the $$

I think this and #2 go hand in hand. Not the best at balancing the checkbook but, then again, don’t have that much balance.

         4. Go to Wrigley in October

So I kind of veered off from the “Semester List.” This is important to me so thats why it’s here. Cubbies are having a magical season. Playing some of the best baseball in all of baseball. My brother moved into a house not further than a mile from Wrigley Field. If the Cub’s keep hitting and pitching like they are now, I’m sure we will all celebrate in October.
